Coming down from the peak, we followed the trail according to our map, which should have brought us down the hill, and around in a loop back to the ranger's station. Instead, our trail ended at a nursery. They had a lot of plants there.
We figured that maybe we could pick up our trail on the other side of the nursery. After walking the length and breadth of it for quite some time, we realized that it was entirely fenced in. The only way out was the way we entered. We were out of water by this point, and it seemed our only recourse was to turn around and hike back up to the cell phone tower and back-track our way back.
On a positive note, we saw a rabbit.
