This morning, Eleanor and Miranda both hit me with strange sentences. I was making cheese toast for Eleanor (spread some butter on bread, sprinkle Parmesan cheese, toast it) and when Eleanor was done putting on the cheese, she said “I want to stay it.” She had to repeat it multiple times before I could figure out what she was saying. She didn’t want me to do anything else to the bread. When I finally figured out what she was saying, I told her we needed to toast her bread because the bread was frozen.
Later, I was cooking some scrambled eggs for Miranda. She was watching TV. When I was putting it on the plate, Miranda came running up and said something I couldn’t understand. I eventually figured out she said, “I want to stove it.”
What’s changed that they’re using these words in such strange ways?
